Our Statement

We, the Executive Board of the Delta Gamma alumnae chapter of NYC, are charged with leading and fostering a sisterhood of inclusivity and diversity in the “greatest city in the world.” We represent over 1,000 Delta Gamma women in the area who come from a variety of chapters and racial, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds. We are committed to ensuring that all of them are represented fairly in our programming and presence. We strongly believe that Black and Asian lives matter and are thrilled by the steps our Fraternity is taking in order to create a more equal, equitable organization for women and stand by all of their hard work in this space.

We acknowledge the current social climate and want to reaffirm and recommit ourselves to what we have always promised in Article II: “The objects of this Fraternity shall be to foster high ideals of friendship among women, to promote their educational and cultural interests, to create in them a true sense of social responsibility, and to develop in them the best qualities of character.”

Actionable Steps

  1. We commit to offering a diverse range of topics for programming and offering a variety of opportunities for our sisterhood to break their comfort zones and educate themselves

    1. Our Book Club plans to actively include books by BIPOC and hold the appropriate discussions to consider all aspects of the story and experience.

      1. Book Club will actively solicit book recommendations and will highlight BIPOC books to its members on a regular basis, regardless of book club selection.

    2. We are offering many events from outdoor activities to happy hours that require minimal cost to attend and speak to many different parts of the Delta Gamma experience

      1. Recent examples include financial discussions, yoga classes, and talks led by alumnae who are experts in their fields

      2. If you are interested in hosting a Happy Hour on a topic you are passionate about, please reach out to our VP: Programming to discuss

    3. As our city opens up, we will ensure that we continue to offer a variety of programming to touch on all passion points of our sisterhood

      1. We commit to researching opportunities to support BIPOC and women-owned and led businesses as often as possible for our various clubs (athletic club, drama club, dinner club, young alumnae, etc.) and at minimum promoting them to our wider sisterhood

  2. We commit to ensuring that we continually offer inexpensive and low-cost programming to make the NYC DG experience accessible for all sisters regardless of their financial situation

    1. The current dues structure offers a variety of levels of payment to allow women to choose which makes the most sense for her and her situation

    2. If finances are an issue for any sister wishing to become active in NYC DG, she should reach out to the President and VP: Finance

      1. We are committed to working with our sisters on payment plans as needed to ensure all women have the opportunity to participate in our alumnae chapter

  3. We commit to promoting and participating in wider Delta Gamma discussions and opportunities to learn more about what our organization is doing and how to uphold our diversity and inclusion promises

  4. We commit to offering a safe space for our sisters and take seriously any actions that may cause harm to any of the women we represent

    1. Should a sister at any point feel like NYC DG is not a place for her based on actions taken by any member of the chapter, we encourage her to reach out to the President and VP: Membership for help and support

  5. We commit to making a donation in support of a relevant organization in our chapter’s name and continuing to look for spaces where we can grow as a sisterhood and back causes that represent everything Delta Gamma stands for

  6. We commit to listening to our chapter’s feedback and promise to continually adapt and make changes as needed to ensure we are living up to our promises as laid out here.
